The Management of Government Communication in Times of Coronavirus Crisis: The Ecuadorian Case

Synopsis

The public health crisis caused by the coronavirus, both globally and in Ecuador, has challenged us as a society to reflect on how prepared we are to face a pandemic that continues to claim more lives around the world. However, the difficulties in dealing with this reality have not been limited to epidemiological and public health issues; matters such as managing risk and crisis communication have also remained unresolved in this situation.

Author Biography

María Eugenia Molina, Universidad Nacional de La Plata/Universidad San Francisco de Quito USFQ
Ph.D. in Communication from the National University of La Plata, Argentina. She holds a Master’s degree in Organizational Communication and a Bachelor’s degree in Social Communication from the Central University of Ecuador. She also completed postdoctoral research at the National University of Córdoba.

Her research focuses on strategic communication for the prevention and management of crises and disasters, political communication, and nonverbal communication.

She currently works as a consultant, trainer, and university lecturer. Throughout her career, she has served as a specialist, head, director, and communication advisor in various public and private institutions, and has been a speaker at multiple forums on topics related to her areas of expertise.
