Synopsis

The main objective of this paper is to contribute to the readers' disciplined understanding of the evolution of the productive and institutional bases of the Ecuadorian economy throughout the first oil bonanza (1965-1981), two lost decades (1982-1999), a second oil bonanza (2000-2014) and an epilogue (2015-2017), in which the fall in oil prices, while putting it in crisis, has also led to a proliferation of initiatives aimed at seeing how the country can get out of the quagmire.
