Synopsis

The oral literature of Ecuador (verses, sayings, stories, anecdotes, legends...) has always deserved the attention of enthusiastic and patient researchers. Not as many as would have been desirable. Those grandmother's advices, told to the grandchildren in a dark and rainy night, or the picaresque and zumbonesque jokes, celebrated with laughter or laughter at the love of a few drinks, we do not know for sure where or how they were born. They are remnants of the wisdom and humor of the common people. They are a mirror of the joys and dreams, of the sorrows and labors of these people. The rescue, analysis and interpretation of such unwritten texts involves a rigorous work whose first stage has to be out in the open. Only after having collected the living texts in situ, we proceed to the cabinet work: the philological, linguistic and hermeneutic task.
