The podcast is a mixture of two media formats: the blog and the radio. In this sense, a podcast is a periodic digital audio publication that is downloaded or played from the Internet. Therefore, a digital device such as a computer or smartphone is required to listen to a podcast.
Like blogs, podcasts allow anyone to share their experiences, ideas, stories, knowledge or reflections with others, in this case their audience. These can be on any topic, from personal matters to news, tutorials, educational content or fiction.
The difference with radio is that podcasts do not require a radio frequency; anyone can upload a podcast to the network. In addition, they can be downloaded and listened to wherever and whenever the user chooses.
Finally, there are relative thematic differences with dial radio. For example, because of copyright restrictions, a podcast cannot broadcast music as radio does. Likewise, news content of general interest tends to be less common. In the case of podcasts, content for an audience with specific interests is more important.
